Hiring Your First Nanny

Juggling your busy work schedule as well as your children’s growing list of practices, study sessions and homework, you need extra hands. Deciding to hire your first nanny can be a scary experience for some families. However, after deciding just what you need help with and what you’re looking for, you should be able to easily find a nanny that can de-stress your life (at least a bit) and help your kids stay active and grow into intelligent, hard working young adults.

Place An Ad Online

There are a variety of websites online where you can place an advertisement for a nanny. Be specific in your listing in the schedule you’re looking for, what they would required to do, what cultural/religious background you’re from (if this involves what is cooked in the home, etc.), as well as any things you don’t like (such as smokers). The more specific you are, the better chance you have of finding someone that fits your needs.

Review & Interview Candidates

After receiving some applicants, closely review each candidate’s resume and make calls to set up interviews. It’s important you have an in-person interview with the children present to get a feel for how they are with your children. How your children react will be a big influence on who you choose to be your nanny.

Talk To Friends Who Have Nannies

Before choosing a candidate, be sure to talk to anyone you know who has a nanny. Ask what they pay (if you feel this is ok to ask) and what they expect from them. This ballpark will allow you to determine what you want to pay and what you expect as well.

Good luck!
